MOBERLY, Mo. – To help address hunger in our community, and in celebration of National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day on April 2, Moberly Regional Medical Center has collected more than 550 jars of peanut butter (and other nut butters) for the Christos Center Food Bank in Moberly.
Peanut butter was donated by MRMC’S employees, board members, medical staff members and community members during the recent Jars of Love peanut butter drive.
According to Feeding Missouri, 14.2 percent of residents in Randolph County struggle to put food on the table. The Jars of Love peanut butter drive was launched to help support individuals who are facing food insecurity, which is a social determinant of health.
Peanut butter is one of the most requested items for food banks because it is highly nutritious and has a long shelf life. Unfortunately, many food banks in America report it is also one of the least donated food items. Other foods needed by food banks include cans of vegetables, cans of pork and beans, macaroni and cheese and healthy cereals.
This is the third year MRMC has held the Jars of Love peanut butter drive. Since the inaugural drive, MRMC has collected more than 2,000 jars of peanut butter for the Christos Center to benefit members of Moberly and the surrounding communities.
